An age old tradition in many cultures, often times bitter and aromatic herbs were extracted in different types of alcohol or vinegars, and then enjoyed before or after meals, hence apertifs and digestivs. Bitters became a flavorful way to craft new and exciting cocktails, while also enjoying the digestive benefits of the plants and herbs the extraction contained.
We love these bitters all on their own, though they can also be mixed in sparkling water or juice, or blended into your favorite evening beverage or cocktail. They’re even delicious drizzled over frozen desserts and ice cream, and superb in a buttered hot toddy. Especially suited for use before, during, or immediately following meals.
