Description
Herban tale: In North Carolina, come mid summer these golden flowers can be found blowing in the breeze on high mountain balds. I crush their leaves between my fingers, looking for a red imprint to be left behind......the sign of their medicine. Making offerings and expressing my gratitude I harvest the fresh buds, soon to be added to olive oil. Days infusing in oil in the sun slowly reveals the oil turning to a rich deep red color. It has a long history of being used for emotional protection as well as to protect one from evil spirits. Some cultures today still use it as an exorcist for ghosts. Personally I anoint myself before a day of massage clients or when preparing for a week of treating people with herbal first aid. It is also nice to rub on your abdomen during a rough menstrual moment.
